The story tried to depict the fear and horror, the coming future creates in man, a world where he himself will be the God and Lord of himself. Marriage is dreamlike and drunk and mad, I myself am not able to explain it, there is so much obscurity in it. That director is right, who lets this sphynxform make its own shape, lets it cry and shout; the director's only task is to listen to the special, almost musical unity of this ceremony. - Witold Gombowicz
